The Catering - Food and drinks - cost of a traditional wedding in the U.S. is $4,000
At a wedding reception in the U.S., the cost for food varies by what is being offered to the guests - 2 course, 3 course, 4 course dinner, what types of meat are being served, and of course the number of people.
At a wedding reception in the U.S., the cost for drinks varies by what types of alcohol are being offered to the guests:
if it is an open bar or not,
if it is beers and wine then that is one cost, but
if premium alcohol is being offered then the drink cost goes through the roof because there is no way to know how many drinks of what type of alcohol each guest will consume, and of course the number of people who will be attending the reception and consuming the alcohol.
However, at a destination wedding in Punta Cana held at a 5-star, all-inclusive resort, the guest pays one cost per day which includes:
A. all of their meals:
as much as they want
as many times as they want
including, but not limited to -
full breakfast with eggs and ham, bacon and caviar, pancakes and an assortment of fresh fruits
mid-day snack
complete 4 meat-lunch
mid-afternoon snack
4-course dinner
midnight snack, and
room service if they are still hungry at 2 in the morning), and
B. all of their drinks:
as much as they want
as many times as they want
including, but not limited to -
rum, whisky, vodka, gin, tequilla, mixed drinks, wine, beers, juices, soft drink, and of course mamajuana (the Dominican aphrodisiac).
So because the wedding reception may not be in a restaurant, or at a time when the restaurant is serving food, the food needs to be prepared separately, and the food and drinks delivered to the venue on the resort where the reception is being held, complete with staff to serve the food and drinks, at an average cost of $40 per person for everything (all food and all drinks).
The cost for the preparation of, delivery to, and personnel to serve the food and drinks would run about $1,500.
A destination wedding in Punta Cana can save the bride and groom $2,500 on the line item food and drinks cost as compared to a traditional wedding at a
venue in the U.S.
